Entry 1-3/14/07
1. What are some of the previous research projects you have done?
I've done an I-Search on child slavery in 6th grade in English, Wild West, Louisiana History and Labryniths.
2. Based on these projects, what does research mean to you?
Research means looking for information to me.
3. Describe one of your research successes or failures. Why was the experience positive or negative?
Our Labrynith project overall was a Sucess I think, because we got a good grade.

Teacher Response March 15
I am sure that the child slavery research project was interesting. Your grade is 10/10.
Mrs.D

Entry 2 3/15/07 - Reflection on Webbing Process
I think the webbing process helped/did not help me find a topic because:
We didn't have any ideas for topics, except from the book, and it was limiting. We didn't have so much guidance about where to find a topic either.

Entry 3 3/15/07 - Why I Chose This Topic and What I Know About My Topic
1. Topic: Black Death/Bubonic Plague
2. Why you chose it: I thought that there was a lot of information and this would be interesting.
3. What you already know about your topic : Over 2/3s of Europe's Population was wiped out by the Bubonic Plague/Black Death

Teacher Response March 16
Your grade is 20/20.

Entry 4 3/16/07 - Pre-Notetaking Activity - in class
1. Brainstorm a list of questions related to your topic.
Black Death\Bubonic Plague

Fat Question
What were the effects of the Black Death on Europe’s Society?

Skinny Questions
What caused the plague?
How did it spread?
How many people were affected?
How did it start?
When did it take place?
How was it stopped?
What were the symptoms?
How were you treated in the community if you had it?
What were some ideas to stop it?
Does it still affect people?
Did it affect just humans?
How did it affect the economy?

Entry 5 - Reflections on Pre-Notetaking - 3/16/07
1. Describe how the pre-notetaking sheet helped you find both focus for your topic and research questions to investigate. Did you find it easy or difficult to create a fat question from your ideas?
With the guidance of helpful teachers ( Mrs. DaQuanno and Mrs. Goodall) and my helpful classmates, brainstorming and finding a fat question was easy. The brainstorming went well and I hope that I have enough money to get an efficient answer and a good report.

Teacher Response March 20 - Good topic. 20/20.

6 - What I Have Learned Today-3/20/07
1. What have I learned today?
I learned about how the Black Death( more specifically the Bubonic Plague) affected Children, Art and Everyday life, and the definition of Black Death

2. What problems have I had?
I haven't encountered too many problems, except that the databases are lacking in information on my fat question.

3. How will I overcome the problem(s)?
I will continue to search the different databases for more information.

4. What will I do next?
Search databases, and try google because I've been more sucessful there.

Teacher Response March 21 - Please consider different search terms. There is lots of info on the black death in the databases. 10/10.

7 - What Have I learned today 3/21/07
1. What have I learned today?
-I learned about the measures some countries took to preventing the black death that didn't work
- The Time period of the black death
- What Caused it
- How the doctors in the time didn't know at all how to stop it, and they took ridiculous measures to try and stop it
2. What problems have I had?
I didn't really have any problems today

3. How will I overcome the problem(s)?
N/A
4. What will I do next?
I will research in whichever way the teachers tell me to tomorrow, I will also continue my research in books.
P.S. I did find some more info on the databases :) Thanks!

Teacher Response March 22 - You seem to be doing great. 10/10.

7 - What Have I learned today- 3/22/07
1. What have I learned today?
I've learned about the Bubonic, Septominic and Pneumonic Plagues.
These were extremely interesting, and I learned this:
The bubonic plague was most common, then the septomonic then the pneunomic, The bubonic had a 30-50% mortality rate, Septonomic had a 90% Mortality rate and Pneumonic had more than 99% and almost 100%. The Septomonic plague was really really gross, because you turned dark purple and died within hours of getting this disease. Almost 800 people died each day of this. It still has no cure today. I also learned about the chain of events and how it affected the economy so negatively. It went from Artisians, who died, and then the serfs who sort of wanted to rebel, and enjoy life. The rich people were then unhappy because they had no one to work for them. So, basically they had bad workers and a lot of people were unhappy as an economy-slowing result of this awful plague that killed at least 1/3 of Europe's population at that time period.

2. What problems have I had?
I haven't had that many problems except that paraphrasing and noodlebib takes a while.

3. How will I overcome the problem(s)?
Not so sure at the moment, but I'll think about it.

4. What will I do next?
I will try and find all of the answers to my skinny questions, and then later get started on the graphic organizer.
Thanks for all of your comments, Mrs. Goodall and Mrs. DaQuanno! They're really helpful!
